The chain around the tower represents the close alliance in arms between Lismore and Lorne and represents the bonds of those who carry the title Lord of Lochaber.
The two lions rampant combatant have long been associated with the Lords of Lochaber and were granted as heraldic charges during the 12th century, as indicators of particular courage which had been displayed by the then Lord of Lochaber in battle.
